One week after surviving the damage of Hurricane Matthew, my daughter and husband Joey have a different family scenario.  This weekend was the family cruise on my grandson’s ship, the USS George H.W. Bush.  Karen is with her “boy” for a weekend.  Austin has been in the Navy for 3 years and doing well.  It is a time to have fun, to enjoy her oldest son and his new girlfriend, and forget the troubles of the last week, at least for a short time. When we are dealing with a mountain of stress, sometimes we just have to get away.  The damage will still be there when they return, and after a week off, Joey must get back to his job as office manager for Rapport International in Las Vegas, but for a time they can forget and enjoy family.

With daughter Kaelen, at school in Utah, and 2nd oldest son visiting his dad in Las Vegas, it was only her youngest son, a senior in high school who braved the storm with them.  The thing that seems to be primary is that we cannot take anything for granted. They could have lost their home, either from the storm surge or a falling tree, but it survived the onslaught.  With no time to grab precious things, it puts your priorities in place.
