We got a new puppy. I have no idea what I was thinking to take on a project like this at our age! Piper is a sweet dog, her coat is golden and smooth, and she’s mid-size, but she is full of energy and like a shadow, follows me all over the house! Like any puppy, she loves to chew, and we were so trusting we left her on her bed in the living room at night with our older dog, Chessie, who is going on 14. How naïve could we be? The chewed up library book cost me $38 to replace, the antique end table and chair will be $200 to repair, and we are fortunate the VA will replace Frank’s hearing aids. We went out and bought a wire dog crate for her to sleep in at night! We are working on the “walk” so she is not pulling on the lease and take her down to the dog park every other day so she can run off some steam. The dog park is a mixed bag. I am glad it is large, and fenced so she can run free, but they do not water it any more and it is grainy sand with heaven knows what in it as the dogs do their business whenever the mood strikes them and while most owners pick up after their dogs, some do not. Most dogs are friendly, but two dogs that come often knock her over aggressively and she yelps. Time to go home. I wrote a story once about “Big Eyes” a lab mix we used to own. Maybe there is a story here?
