A year or two ago I joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and found a really nice group of ladies. It’s fun to weigh in every Friday morning to see if we have gained or lost. No one chides you for gaining weight when the roll is called. They just say “Glad you are here! I’ve had a few ups and downs, mostly downs, but have lost 13 pounds since I started. Sometimes it seems like you hit a plateau and your weight seems to stay the same no matter what you eat or don’t eat. About a month ago I decided to try one of these professional diets they advertise on TV. I wanted to break the cycle and see more of a loss. Well, I found since I usually eat organic and little red meat, also very little bread or heavy carbs, the food had an adverse effect on me and it wasn’t fun. I finally had to call and cancel. Had dealt with the gut problem for 3 weeks. Fortunately, they were very understanding and cancelled along with refunding my money. Having tried several diets over the years, I was at a loss as to what to do next. In my club we have lots of contests as incentive to lose. We don’t advocate one diet over another, as each has to choose their own path. We do have programs on heart health, carbs, eating mindfully, exercise, etc. I decided to go back to writing down everything I ate and counting calories. It helps me see what I can eat more of and what I better save as a treat. If I have a luncheon to go to, I eat a light breakfast and if the calories are over the moon for the day, I settle on a Premier Protein shake. It’s amazing what I can eat for 1300 calories a day and don’t feel deprived. If you are like me, if someone tells me I cannot eat something, that’s the one thing I want! So far I’ve lost 3 more pounds. Yay!
