My TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight loss group met again after a year, on Friday. Out of around 24 women, we had ten hardy souls. We spaced out chairs, and wore our masks, and instead of a program, we talked about how the COVID hiatus had affected us. Of course, with so much time indoors, it was certainly easy to snack and many of us gained extra unwanted pounds. With restaurants and other things opening up again, I have this sense of freedom and some semblance of normalcy. I went back to counting calories, as that seems to work best for me. I cut out gluten, tomatoes, dairy, sweets, beans, and white potatoes. (Although the various medical experts seem to disagree on what is the right thing to eat.) The media is full of experts, who with a video that seems to go on forever, tell you how they magically found the secret, and it will only cost you $125 for their amazing pills, liquid, capsules, etc. Their sites are full of before and after pictures, from dumpy to calendar girl figures! Just take whatever it is they are selling, and the pounds will just melt away! Tried one bottle of something and it did nothing for me at all. Another site said that of course you would want several bottles, at a goodly price in order for it to work faster. Why would I order several bottles of a product I haven’t tried yet? Evidently people do. The weight loss industry takes in billions of dollars every year from overweight hopefuls that are seeking a quick way to lose weight. Think I will stick to counting calories and enjoying a non-diet meal once in a while. I’m in no hurry!
