When I decided to offer myself as a volunteer to the Salvation Army, I wasn’t sure where I would serve. After the interview and a test, the volunteer coordinator, Stacy, and I talked about maybe ESL. I drove to Escondido and met the staff, but decided that driving to Escondido every week was not for me.  When I mentioned I like to work with seniors (being one myself) Stacy thought about that and the fact that I was a writer, and asked if I would be interested in teaching a creative writing class at the Clairmont complex, for seniors.  I would help them write their memoirs.  How delightful!  I was thrilled and after answering in the affirmative, we set a date, I furnished a tentative curriculum, and we began.  What fun it has been to hear the stories of my “students”!  So many backgrounds and so many interesting experiences.  We have three weeks to go and it has gone quickly but I’m hoping to do it again.  What lovely people to work with at the S A.   If any of you have ever thought to teach a creative  writing class, l0ok into your opportunities.  Make use of what God has given you.  You will be blessed!
